I Shall Rest

I was told by someone special a few months ago:
“I asked for you and God sent you to me.”
She cried as she played a song from me that described what she was feeling.

He Heals Me – India.Arie
I held her.
“You make me feel really safe.” she said.
She loves music. So I sat quietly as she continued to play songs for me over time. I wanted to hear the messages she was giving me every time she played a song. It’s funny how thing’s matched India.Irie’s song without trying. Because I was genuinely interested. The songs continued over time. These are examples of a few (of plenty of songs) I heard:

Sorry, no Beyonce…she has too many favorite Bey songs to post here.
On the way to church this morning I turned on the radio in my rental car. I hadn’t turned on the radio all week and it was set to a gospel station. Marvin Sapp’s song “The Best in Me” came on. The song blared through the speakers as the lyrics flowed through my ears:

The Best In Me – Marvin Sapp
“He saw the best in me.
When everyone else around me,
Could only see the worst in me.
He’s mine and I am His.
It doesn’t matter what I did.
He’s mine and I am His.
He only sees me for who I am.”
I chuckled at the irony and double meaning of that song as I thought of the special someone.
I sat in church and the choir was singing. I didn’t know what they were singing but tears streamed down my face as I was overcome with emotion. Then I heard the all too familiar voice that only comes around when I needed to hear it most.
“Son, you need to rest. I got you.”
The choir kept singing and I recognized the words to the song.

Stand – Donnie McClurkin
The voice came again. This time more stronger and profound.
“Rest, my Son. I got you.”
I am an obedient Child. So I’ll do as He says.
I shall rest.
